For the years 1994 to 2009, the data used are the actual expenditure outturns, as shown in the annual Appropriation Accounts. For 2010 and 2011, the figures used are taken from the Revised Estimates Volume. Public Service numbers data is based on information reported to the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform on a quarterly basis.

Scope

All current and capital spending by Government Departments and agencies, not including spending directly from the Central Fund such as debt-servicing costs, the costs of the Houses of the Oireachtas, and the salaries of the judiciary. All public service staff including public servants whose pay is not in all cases funded directly by the Exchequer.
